OVER the years, Amy Dowden has become a much-loved TV star after rising to fame on Strictly Come Dancing.

Who is Amy Dowden?

Born on 10 August 1990, Amy Dowden grew up in Caerphilly, South Wales and started dancing at the age of eight.

She is now based in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, with her English dance partner and husband, Ben Jones, who is from Sandwell.

Amy, whose favorite dance is the rumba, loves to swim – and usually returns to Wales to see her family when they are relaxing after a competition.

She is one of the highest ranked Ballroom and Latin American professional dancers in the UK.

Amy is a four-time British national finalist and reached the semi-finals of the World Championship in 2015.

When not competing as a professional dancer, Amy teaches Zumba locally to community groups and school children.

When did Amy Dowden get married?

Amy and her husband Ben Jones got married on Saturday 2 July 2022.

The professional dancer had to move the date back twice due to Covid.

Ben proposed to Amy on New Year’s Eve 2017, and the date was originally set for April 2020.

However, they finally managed to celebrate their marriage in a beautiful venue in the Gower.

Speaking of her big day, Amy shared HELLO! Magazine: “It was a beautiful venue. I always knew I wanted to get married in Wales.

“The day was a celebration of Ben and me.”

The couple were surrounded by close friends and family, as well as Strictly pro Dianne Buswell, who served as bridesmaid.

What cancer does Amy Dowden have?

On May 24, 2023, Amy bravely revealed her battle with cancer.

The BBC star shared the shock news that she had been diagnosed with an aggressive stage of breast cancer last week.

She revealed her health battle on Instagram, writing: “Hey everyone, I have some news that is not easy to share.

“I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it.

“Welsh loves Amy x.”

Amy joined the Strictly professional line-up in 2017.

In 2022 she was with EastEnders actor James Bye.

They were eliminated in week 6 of the competition and finished in 11th place.
