Declan Joseph Oliver “Dec” Donnelly, OBE, 47, is an English television presenter, producer and actor best known for working with long-time friend Ant McPartlin.

They are known and loved by fans as the presenting duo Ant and Dec.

Dec, who is from Newcastle, was born on September 25, 1975 and stands at 5ft 6in tall.

He is the youngest of seven children.

How did Declan Donnelly meet Ant McPartlin?

The pair first met on the children’s television show, Byker Grove, in 1990.

Ant joined the show in 1989 in the role of PJ, short for Peter Jenkins.

Dec joined the role of Duncan a year later and became popular after having a number of storylines together.

They also became a musical duo, under the name PJ & Duncan, and scored a top 10 single with their track Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble.

After becoming real-life best friends, their on-screen chemistry was a winner and they moved on to comedy presenting.

In real life, Ant and Dec are inseparable and even lived on the same street in Chiswick, West London, before Ant split from his now ex-wife Lisa Armstrong.

Des married his long-term partner Ali Astall on 1 August 2015 at St Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Elswick, Tyne and Wear.

The couple started dating in 2013 and they announced their engagement a year later, with Ant as best man on his big day.

Declan’s daughter was born on 1 September 2018.

He and his wife Ali named their firstborn Elizabeth Anne Island.

The couple then welcomed a son, named Jack, in July 2022.

What programs did Ant and Des present?

Widely regarded as Britain’s most popular duo, Ant and Dec have fronted some of the UK’s biggest shows for over 20 years.

They’ve fronted a number of shows but really hit the big time when they hosted children’s show SMTV Live on Saturday morning, which launched the career of Cat Deeley, as well as CD:UK, a music chart show .

After moving away from children’s television, they found success with Saturday Night Takeaway, which first aired in 2002 and are also known for fronting I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Britain’s Got Talent.

On 18 May 2023, it was announced that Ant and Dec would be leaving Saturday Night Takeaway following the conclusion of their 20th series in 2024.

The pair revealed it on their shared Instagram page, with Ant saying: “We love doing Saturday Night Takeaway but reaching the 20 series milestone seemed like the perfect time to take a break to stop and take a breath.”
