Pure is here, it’s not going anywhere, and it probably never will. Pure substance’s newest champion is Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, who wore a mostly sheer floor-length Schiaparelli couture dress to a screening of her latest movie, HBOMax’s reality, Tuesday, May 16 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Sweeney’s black strapless gown has a mermaid fit, with alternating panels of sheer and opaque fabric. The transparent panels expose her abs and thighs, and the opaque panels have multiple layers of ruffles. (Their patterns are almost reminiscent of sensor rods, which will be on the theme for the film about classified information.) Sweeney styled the dramatic look with equally dramatic makeup: black cat-eye eyeliner, pink cheeks and pale pink matte lipstick. She wore her long blonde hair in soft, summery waves.

It’s certainly not the first time Sweeney has opted for a sheer look, joining fellow sheer pioneers including Rita Ora, Florence Pugh and Kristen Stewart on the front lines of the battle for sheer dominance. In April, the 25-year-old actor wore a sheer white skirt over black underwear and sheer tights, along with a black bra for the launch of Giorgio Armani’s My Way perfume in NYC.
