Holly and Phil are far from the first breakfast TV presenting duos to fall out.

In the mid-90s, Eamonn Holmes and Anthea Turner’s smiles on GMTV turned out to be a front when their split was revealed.

Holmes referred to her as ‘Princess Tippytoes’, and it was claimed he forced Ms Turner to quit the ITV daytime show in 1996.

And then there was Selina Scott and Frank Bough on the BBC’s Breakfast Time show in 1983. She says he undermined her by interrupting the question, insisted on getting the last word in, and repeatedly told her how good he was

When Ms Scott, now 72, did not respond positively, Bough claimed she must be cold or a lesbian.

He said of her: ‘Even when she rides her bike, she keeps her knees together.’ She left in 1986 – and a year later he went too. Channel 4 Big Breakfast host Denise van Outen and Johnny Vaughan rowed about pay. She quit and they didn’t speak for seven years.

Ms Van Outen said: ‘The relationship broke down when we started to renegotiate contracts. I always felt we worked together as a team and that’s how it should be.’

It has often been said that Good Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid are falling out. She would raise her eyebrows at him, and he claimed she was soft on guests.
