In a bombshell statement, Schofield apologized to his agents, employers and legal team for lying to them – admitting: “The first thing I want to say is I’m very sorry that I lied to them and to many others about ‘ a relationship I had. with someone who works on This Morning.”

And Mary Bekhait, Group CEO of YMU Group, Schofield’s agency, said: “Honesty and integrity are core values for YMU’s entire business, defining everything we do.

“This week we learned important new information about our client Phillip Schofield.

“These facts contradicted what Phillip previously told YMU, as well as the outside advisors we brought in to support him. As a result, on Thursday we agreed to part ways with Phillip with immediate effect.”

The ITV star – who has been married to Stephanie Lowe for 30 years – this afternoon admitted to an affair with a younger man.

“I am so very, very sorry, the way I am because I was unfaithful to my wife.”

He has now quit the British Soap Awards and resigned from ITV with immediate effect.

Schofield was only fired from This Morning last week after intense speculation of a feud with co-host Holly Willoughby.

It comes after his brother Tim Schofield was jailed after he was found guilty of “emotionally blackmailing” a teenager into sex and forcing him to watch pornography.

Timothy Schofield, 54, carried out a series of sexual offenses – the most serious of which involved an alleged sex act with the boy.

And he was jailed for 12 years for the sick child offenses on May 19.

The next day it was confirmed his brother Phillip had been dropped by ITV.

Phil made no mention of Holly in a statement announcing his shock departure.

Bosses decided the situation was unworkable after apparent on-screen tension between them saw the show lose 170,000 viewers.
