Matt Willis sparks concern as he takes social media break and says he’s ‘just an addict trying to stay clean’
BUSTED star Matt Willis has told fans he will be taking a social media break – saying: “I’m just a drug addict trying to stay clean.”
Matt’s special BBC One documentary Fighting Addiction saw him open up about his past problems as he searched for answers as to why he became an addict.
The pop star opened up about his 20-year battle with both alcohol and drug addiction, including admitting to regularly taking cocaine in the dressing room during Busted’s last tour, five years ago.
Following the emotional documentary, Matt decided to take a break from social media, while urging other people in a similar position to him to get help.
He told fans: “I’m having some quiet time and I’m not on social media that much at the moment.
“Thank you for all your amazing messages about the documentary. Sorry I can’t answer them all.

“I am not a trained therapist or counsellor.
“I’m just a drug addict trying to stay clean.
“If you need help now, there are links at the bottom of the iPlayer videos.
“Talking about these things is a big step in the right direction, talk to someone, if they can’t help you, talk to someone else.”
During the documentary, viewers saw Matt’s wife Emma Willis break down in tears about the height of his drug and alcohol addiction.
The former Big Brother host was left emotional as she looked back at an old diary from 2008.
Emma told the cameras that she kept a daily list of all the drugs and alcohol Matt had taken that day.
During one of the days, Emma could be seen writing that Matt was “completely f***ed”.
She revealed that she hasn’t looked back at the diary since she locked it in a draw.
The star said: “The only thing I could think of to keep track of was keeping a diary.
“I don’t think I’ve ever read it since I wrote it – it’s literally just notes of… what I knew he consumed.
“A bottle of champagne, a couple of wines, a couple of wines… another bottle of champagne, and more and more, is a reference to… um, drugs.”
Emma went on to reveal that she traveled around all the local pubs to find her husband but he evaded her and went to all the places she was unaware of.
She sobbed as she read the notes and realized just “how bad he was”.
The Circle host added: “There were so many ways, um… that he hid things.”
She then heartbreakingly admitted: “I was so afraid he was going to die.”

Elsewhere, Emma admitted that living with someone who struggled with addiction was “unpredictable” and “anxiety-inducing”.
Matt now hopes that he may be able to help other people in a similar position to him, as well as the families and friends of addicts.
