Inside Gwen Stefani’s transformation from fresh-faced punk princess to makeup mogul amid plastic surgery rumors
GWEN Stefani has been in the music business for decades. And despite the fact that she is 53, she proved that she is still just a girl.
Throughout Gwen’s wildly successful music career, she started out as a punk princess in the rock band No Doubt and is now considered a makeup and pop icon.
During her highly successful solo music career, she released four studio albums.
Some of her solo hits included Rich Girl, Hollaback Girl and The Sweet Escape.
Her debut album, Love, Angel, Music, Baby, sold over one million copies.
From pop icon to reality star, Gwen spent five years as a judge on the singing competition show, The Voice.
This is where she met her husband, Blake Shelton.
Take a look back at the pop singer’s ever-evolving transformation over the years.
90’s CHICK
During the 1990s, Gwen was the lead singer of the rock group No Doubt – where she quickly rose to fame.
They went on to release hit songs including It’s My Life, Don’t Speak and Hey Baby.
The band reunited in 2012 for their latest album, Push and Shove.
Throughout this era, Gwen was seen wearing jewelry on her face and was widely known as a punk princess.
On the red carpet of the 1998 Video Music Awards, Gwen stunned with her blue hair in space buns and some body glitter.
She wore a fur bikini top that matched her hair, along with face jewelry around her eyes.
Gwen loved having uniquely colored hair, including a bright shade of pink that hinted at her blonde hair.
The No Doubt rocker was also spotted sporting thin brows and a burgundy lip alongside giant hoop earrings and a v-neck cheetah print outfit.
Gwen also loved a chain belt.
“It was the ’90s, after all, so any guy who was a skater or a punk wore a chain belt,” she told Vogue.
“So I was kind of a guy from the waist down in everything I wore.”
HOLLABACK GIRL
In the early 2000s, the No Doubt star left to work on solo music.
With four albums under her belt, Hollaback Girl became her first solo number one hit along with four other top 10 hits.
During this time, fans saw a slight change in the way Gwen dressed. She did away with the face jewels but kept it heavy with the jewels.
She is always seen wearing funky outfits with unique designs on them.
She wore a lot of belly shirts, plaid skinny jeans, fishnets and big belts.
The era was also the beginning of Gwen’s bleached blonde hair.
Her eyebrows were thicker, but still with the beautiful red lip.
REALITY TV STAR
During her time on The Voice, she was a judge for many seasons.
She became a judge in 2014.
After Carter Rubin took home the win for Stefani’s team in season 19, she took a small break from the hit competition show.
She was later replaced by Nick Jonas, who originally made his coaching debut in season 18.
Despite confirming the departure at the time, Stefani didn’t give a specific reason, but it’s not unusual for coaches to take a break.
After season 19 of The Voice ended, she released her first solo single in years, titled Let Me Reintroduce Myself.
Season 20 was reportedly filmed at the same time as season 19 wrapped, so it’s possible that Stefani was too busy working on new music to make that type of commitment.
Blake is set to follow in his wife’s footsteps as the country singer steps down as a judge on the show.
BUSINESSWOMAN
In 2022, Gwen released her own makeup line called GVVE.
Her brand is described as “clean, vegan and cruelty-free.”
She debuted four lipsticks, all named after her songs. Now the brand sells mascara, eyebrow pencils, eyeshadows and more.
“This is not another celebrity [brand] — I’m not a celebrity, I’m me, from Anaheim. I’ve been obsessed with makeup my whole life,” Gwen said as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
OBSESSION
In 2021, during a candid interview with Australia’s Stars magazine, Gwen admitted to obsessing over how she ages, adding that aging in the public eye can be especially difficult.
“It’s really hard for everyone to get old and face life,” she shared.
“Especially for women and people who have been in the spotlight, it can be scary, but you deal with it by just trying to be the most beautiful version of yourself inside and out.”
Gwen added: “People talking about my aging is a compliment, I guess. I’m also quite obsessed with how I age.”
PLASTIC SURGERY?
Fans noted that Gwen looked “unrecognizable” in some photos and during appearances.
Many believe that she may have undergone plastic surgery.
Sephora recently posted an ad on its Instagram page featuring Gwen, 53, and some products from her makeup brand.
“Hey what’s up Sephora! This is Gwen Stefani, I was just about to touch up my lips with some long wear,” as she held up her signature red lip gloss.
The video then shows Gwen twirling in a red and white polka dot dress and showing off various poses.
The Rich Girl singer also slicked her platinum blonde hair into a tight bun on the top of her head.
Fans praised the Grammy winner in the comments section of the post with one asking: “Does she ever age? lol” with a fire emoji.
Another fan replied with a bit of snark: “It’s called a facelift lol. I can tell by her stretched face and missing hairline around the front of the ears. All signs. A lot of my friends have had it too do.”
Gwen wore the same look on stage at the CMT Awards, with the same hair and makeup look, but she changed into a white mini dress with red polka dots and a red bra top peeking out from underneath.
Fans again accused her of going under the knife.
One commenter wrote: “I’m getting to the point where I don’t recognize her anymore.”
Another speculated: “Wow..this is an extreme facelift.”
A third critic said: “The plastic slanted eyebrows are giving me 2023 Madonna vibes. That’s a no for me.”
Someone else chimed in, “I almost didn’t recognize you.”

A fifth hater commented: “Scary plastic look.”
