Inside Beyonce’s UK tour’s first night with 9 outfit changes, 36 songs and a secret body double
IF North Korea was drilling pop superstars, it would look like this. Wow.
So it’s no surprise that when Beyonce arrived in Cardiff last night to launch her UK shows, the whole city came to a standstill.
The American icon brought her Renaissance World Tour to Britain and it did not disappoint as she performed a selection of greatest hits during a nearly 40-song set.
And onlookers are right to stop and take notice – this stage show is like watching a flawless military exercise. . . in miniskirts.
Dressed in a sparkling silver ballgown, Bey burst onto the stage at the city’s Principality Stadium with a pounding rendition of Dangerously In Love – before shifting her tone to the beautifully emotional Flaws And All, during which she visibly moved occurred.
A split show moved her between acts, with a second act of rousing pop players bringing the crowd to their feet amid nine costume changes and the singer backed by a triumphantly tight-knit group of musicians covering pop, soul, blues and more can evoke.

Outfits included an Alexander McQueen bodysuit, iridescent minidress with knee-high boots and a tailored Loewe bodysuit with black gloved arms around her.
Her legion of impeccably organized dancers didn’t skip a beat – marching relentlessly to the beat of their leader.
But it was hard not to be drawn to the overwhelmingly large autocue in the center of the venue, which appeared to act as a safety net in case the megastar lost her spot on the lengthy set list.
She proceeded to perform Drunk In Love from atop a disco ball, flanked by ultra-modern screens showing specially filmed footage.
She took the opportunity to address fans who moaned about her not releasing any videos for her Renaissance album, even though it had been ten months since the record was released.
As she changed costumes, a voiceover said: “You asked for the footage, you called the Queen. But the Queen moves at her own pace.”
And she is said to have spent a fortune on the ambitious and ground-breaking show – rehearsing for hours behind closed doors to ensure dramatic perfection.
steel pole
As the show builds to its climax, choreography extends into the stadium and the superstar ringmaster makes sure 65,000 fans take notice.
It includes a mind-boggling sequence in which Beyonce rides a six-wheeled moon buggy into the heart of the venue and performs a fierce dance around a steel pole.
Between segments, footage of the semi-clad superstar adorns a large stage set – with Bey emerging each time in a new outfit to dramatic effect.
This show is as much about the Fashion and visuals as the songs and sound.
And as the finale builds, it couldn’t be clearer – a superstar is in town and the details don’t matter.
Dazzling wardrobe changes, interspersed sets of famous songs and dozens of charmingly choreographed dancers make it a truly mesmerizing experience.
To be honest, I had no idea I was a fan. . . until now.
