Elle Fanning’s Unpredictable Fashion Is Keeping Cannes on Its Toes
“The time we shared and the artistry I witnessed [Sarah Burton] in the McQueen London studio is a memory I will cherish forever,” she told Vogue of her “dress of dreams”.
Next came a Bottega Veneta LBD, an ethereal lace dress by Rodarte, and a cornflower blue slip by Khaite – complete with a Princess Diana-esque neck scarf in the same shade. Those luxe sneakers from The Row resurfaced in the famous Hôtel Martinez lobby, with a striped shirt, wide leg pants (also The Row), and <a href="https://www.vogue.co.uk/Fashion/article/bottega-veneta-sardine-bag” target=”_blank”>Bottega Veneta’s cult sardine bag. Prove that this starlet can do cool just as well as she can do princess dresses. Further evidence came on Friday in the form of the sheer dress she styled over jeans, with buckled shoes and a chain mail bag.
After all the understated hemlines and relaxed shirtwork, Elle flipped the script again. “Now that’s a party dress,” Fanning wrote on Instagram of her bold silver Paco Rabanne dress, with a sculpted, barely-there bodice that just about preserved her modesty. (The exact fit eliminated the risk of wardrobe malfunctions.) The movie awards haven’t been handed out yet, but Elle deserves full marks for keeping Fashion fans guessing.
