Ava DuVernay attended the Venice International Film Festival in Venice on Wednesday. The Oscar-winning director appeared at the photo call and red carpet premiere of her latest film, “Origin.”

For the first event, DuVernay opted for a monogram-on-monogram ensemble, wearing a white cutout blouse and pleated midi skirt with a contrast zipper closure by Louis Vuitton. The Oscar-winning director accessorized with black open-toe heels, a leather bracelet and small gold hoops, wearing her hair in a high ponytail.

Hours later, DuVernay changed into a pale yellow satin off-the-shoulder gown by Prada. She added a gold triangular clutch bearing the Italian label’s logo. DuVernay completed her red carpet ensemble with two pieces of Bulgari jewelry: yellow diamond chandelier earrings and a diamond choker.

Following her directorial debut in 2010, DuVernay became the first Black woman to receive an Oscar nomination in 2014 for her Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, “Selma.” Her most recent feat, “Origin,” is based on Isabel Wilkerson’s 2020 book, “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.”

While the ongoing Writers snd Screen Actors Guild strikes have put most productions and publicity on pause, independent companies like DuVernay’s Array and Neon, the distributor of “Origin,” were given the go-ahead to resume operations.

The 80th annual Venice International Film Festival will run through Saturday in Lido, a barrier island situated in the Venetian Lagoon. Organized by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera, the festival is officially recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Association. Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” and Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” are among the films selected to premiere at Venice this year.
