Anne Hathaway Is Back in Her Haute Hoods
Anne Hathaway joined Zendaya, Blackpink’s Lisa and Priyanka Chopra for a Bulgari party in Venice at the Palazzo Ducale on Tuesday night, and she dressed in theme for the occasion: the actor was literally dripping in sparkle. As an ambassador for the fine jewelry house, Hathaway naturally has access to some of the most incredible pieces in the world, and she chose a spectacular chain necklace with large red stones for the occasion.
Hathaway went all metallic, opting for a sequin dress by Versace that graduated from gold to silver beading and featured a daring thigh-high slit, revealing her silver mirror platform heels. Hathaway’s gown also featured a dramatic hood detail, framing her face and deliberately drawing the eye to that showy Bulgari necklace.

Hoods have become something of a red carpet signature for the actor, who wore a black hooded Alaïa bodysuit to the Berlin Film Festival in February this year and a gold hooded dress by Ralph Lauren to the Met Gala in 2015 . Hathaway explained why at the time it makes her feel so powerful on the red carpet: “I actually feel strangely confident with a hood over my head. There is something protective about it. If someone asks me a question I don’t like, I can take off the hoodie and just walk away.”
Hathaway and her stylist Erin Walsh deliberately styled her in a <a href="https://www.vogue.co.uk/Fashion/article/anne-hathaway-style” target=”_blank”>more adventurous direction around the time of her 40th birthday. “I think a lot of looks work when you embrace your inner confidence to pull it off,” Walsh previously said Vogue. “Annie literally glows. It doesn’t just come from clothes. It comes by stepping into your potential and embracing possibility.”
One person who has taken note of Hathaway’s more adventurous approach to styling is Donatella Versace, whom Hathaway chose as the face of her Versace Icons collection this year. Last night’s beaded number is just the latest in a string of standout Versace looks Hathaway has worn this year, including the ivory tweed safety pin dress they created together for the Met Gala.
